Cursor trails

Move your mouse, or drag a finger, and leave a trail of sparkles, petals or confetti. Click anywhere for a burst.

Put this trail on your own website

  1. Pick a style and tune it above. The code follows your choices.
  2. Copy the code.
  3. Paste it just before </body> on your site, or into any box for custom code.

Works on any site that lets you add your own HTML, like your own pages, WordPress, Carrd, Blogger, Tumblr, Squarespace and Wix. Free, including for business sites.

Loading the code...

Eight trails to pick from

Each one draws on a see-through layer, so it never covers your buttons or text. Change the size, the amount and the colours above, and the code follows.

Good for: portfolios, personal sites, wedding and party pages, kids' sites and creative shops. On a business site, a calmer trail like Comet or Fireflies keeps it subtle.

  • SparklesFour-pointed stars in yellow, pink and blue that twinkle and shrink away.
  • PetalsPink petals that sway, turn and drift down behind the cursor.
  • CometA glowing head with a yellow to orange tail that thins out as it follows you.
  • RibbonA rainbow ribbon that wiggles along the path of the mouse.
  • BubblesSee-through bubbles that float upwards and pop.
  • ConfettiColourful paper pieces that flutter and fall, with a big burst on click.
  • PixelSquare pixels that shrink in steps, like an old video game.
  • FirefliesSoft glowing dots that wander and blink before they fade.

Adding it to your website builder

The code works anywhere you can paste your own HTML. Here's where that box is on the popular builders. Some of them only allow custom code on paid plans.

WordPress

Install the free WPCode plugin (Plugins, Add New, then search for WPCode). Open Code Snippets, then Header & Footer, paste the code into the Footer box and save. On WordPress.com you need a plan that allows plugins.

Wix

In your site's dashboard, open Settings, then Custom Code under Advanced. Click Add Custom Code, paste the code, choose All pages, place it in Body - end and click Apply. Wix only allows custom code on a Premium plan with a connected domain.

Squarespace

Open Code Injection (search for it in the Squarespace menu if you can't find it), paste the code into the Footer box and save. Code injection is only available on paid plans.

Carrd

Add an Embed element, set Type to Code and Style to Hidden, choose Body End as the placement, then paste the code into the Code box. Embeds need a Carrd Pro plan.

Webflow

Open Site settings, then Custom code. Paste the code into the Footer code box, save, and publish your site. Custom code needs a paid site plan.

Blogger

Go to Theme, open the menu next to Customise and choose Edit HTML. Paste the code just above </body>, then save.

How it works

A tiny script draws the trail on a see-through layer above the page, so it never gets in the way of clicks or text. It only runs while you move, and sleeps when you stop.

Want a trail that isn't here yet, like hearts or snow? Request it.

Will it slow my website down?

No. The code is small, needs no extra files, and stops drawing as soon as the cursor stops moving.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. On phones and tablets the trail follows your finger as you drag, and a tap makes a burst.

Can I remove the credit link?

Yes, it's optional. Untick the box above, or delete the link after pasting. Keeping it helps Prakash Collective keep its toys free, so thank you if you do.

What about visitors who prefer less motion?

The trail switches itself off for anyone who has asked their device to reduce motion, so it never bothers people who find animation uncomfortable.

Is it free to use?

Yes, on any website, including business and client sites. No sign up needed.
