Intervals

An interval is the distance between two notes. Each one has its own colour: a major 3rd sounds bright, a minor 3rd sadder, a perfect 5th open and strong, a tritone restless. Start on Beginner with four easy ones, and add more as they become familiar. Hearing them going up, going down and together are three different skills, so each keeps its own best run.

Swaras from Sa

In this mode you hear Sa first and then one note, and name the swara. This is how musicians really hear: not each note on its own, but how far it is from home. Very few people can name notes with no reference, and you don't need to. Sa follows your setting, so practise in the key you sing in; change it in settings.

A few minutes a day

Short, regular sessions train the ear faster than long ones. When a swara is hard to tell apart, sing it against a drone on the tanpura or check yourself on the pitch trainer.
