Practising with a metronome

Start slow enough to play every note cleanly, often 60 to 80 BPM for new music. When it feels easy three times in a row, go up by 4 or 5 BPM. Don't know the speed of a song? Tap along with it a few times. Clicks per beat adds quieter clicks in between: 2 for eighth notes, 3 for triplets, 4 for sixteenths.

Keyboard: Space starts and stops, the arrow keys change the tempo (hold Shift for 10), T taps. Every click is booked on your device's audio clock, so the beat stays steady even in a background tab. For a drone to sing against, open the tanpura.
