Tuning a ukulele

Standard ukulele tuning is G C E A, from the string nearest your chin to the one nearest the floor. Most ukuleles use a high G, so the first string is higher than the second: that is what gives the ukulele its bright, bouncy sound. Press Start tuning, pluck each string and turn its peg until the light goes green.

New nylon strings stretch a lot for the first week or two and keep going flat. That's normal: tune up often and they will settle.

Low G and baritone

Low G swaps the high G for one an octave lower, for a fuller sound and a wider range of melody. The baritone ukulele is bigger and tuned D G B E, the same as the top four strings of a guitar.

The tuner listens through your microphone only while it is on. Nothing is recorded and no sound leaves your device: each tiny slice is analysed on the spot and thrown away.

Other tuners: guitar, bass, ukulele, violin and the chromatic tuner for any instrument or voice.
